Il Civettaio – Sangiovese – 2014

£25.00

Grape Varietals: 100% Sangiovese

Tasting Notes:  This wine spends 2 years in 38HL oak barrels so give it a little time to open up …and once it does, it will blow your socks off.  A true expression of the Sangiovese grape, tobacco and leather are there as you would expect with hints of aniseed and liquorice on the finish.

Pair it with: T-bone steak and wedges.

Region: Paganico, Tuscany

Did you know?: 2014 was considered too be one of the worst years for wine making in Tuscany.  It was very cold and very wet that year, so if you were growing Pinot Noir you were laughing.  Somehow, Gregorio still managed to pull out a bloody good Sangiovese though, just shows if you’re a good wine maker/farmer you can manage in the tough times.
