Why are we using crowdfunding?

Hopefully by now you have seen that I have launched a crowdfunding page for my business, and wanted to take the time to explain “why crowdfunding?” as I have been asked by a few people.

So here goes….

By now, most of you will know that I ended up in Tuscany off the back of a TV show about ten people looking for a new start on a farm here in Tuscany called Second Chance Summer. After the show ended, I went back to the UK, sold everything that wouldn’t fit in my car, and came back to Italy.

I have based myself in a small flat in the grounds of Castel Porrona, which is a stunning little village in the remote Tuscan hills. Within the village is the hotel Castel Porrona Relais, I could never afford to stay at the hotel, but having been a General Manager in a past life I can highly recommend the place: www.castelporrona.it.  If you tell them you know the English guy Rob with the dog, they will probably titter and put the price up!

Anyway, back to crowdfunding. The idea of crowdfunding is that someone has a concept for a business, which they want to get off the ground, but they don’t necessarily have the finance to do that. Via crowdfunding, they can reach out to friends and family, and potential investors who help support the business by putting money in and receiving something back.

Why can’t you just buy the wine and ship it?

I moved to Tuscany with a small amount of money left to me by my mum and dad. They weren’t wealthy and the money won’t last me for very long, but it has afforded me the opportunity to follow my dream to try to start my own little business. I can cover my rent and bills for a few more months and that’s it, so it’s a bit make or break time. As you saw in episode two of the show, this is everything for me, and I would love to be able to give this business a chance to succeed.

What’s in it for me?

The main reason I am using crowdfunding is that via the site I am using I am able to offer wine as a reward. After all, who doesn’t love a decent glass of vino? . It also gives you the chance to support a small business, help a friend or family member or invest in something you believe in.

I don’t drink but want to support you, how can I help?

There are other perks which essentially give you the opportunity to come to Tuscany and experience some of the sights and sounds from Second Chance Summer. In essence, you pay
for your flight to Tuscany, I pick you up, and we then spend a few days exploring Tuscany together and experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of the region. Or if that’s too much, there are some entry level perks too that won’t break the bank, but will mean the world to me.

Why the amount you are asking for?

The reason I am asking for £18,000 is that it will cover the cost of two pallets of wine – I am optimistic there will be a lot of people wanting to try the wines I have discovered! There are also the costs of shipping the wine to the UK, the boxes we will use to package the wine to send to you, and of course the sensible stuff like taxes and duties. All in all it’s not a huge amount to get a business up and running.

Here is a link to the page, please take a couple of minutes to read the information, watch the video and give your support.
